Blue grosbeak – Passerina caerulea

Weekend trip to Bombay Hook again. I thought it was an Indigo Bunting but instead it is a male Blue grosbeak.

At first I thought its coloring was black but then it took flight and I saw the beautiful coloring. It is in the same family as the Cardinal and looking at it closely, I can see that.

According to Stokes, We are at the northern tip of their range for the East Coast.

I have to go back and look at my pictures from birds I have at home because I think that I may have seen a female at our backyard feeders or at Middlerun Bird Sanctuary.
