Red-bellied Woodpecker – Melanerpes carolinus

I went out to look for warblers this morning but the weather was not very cooperative. There were TONS of people milling about with their necks craned looking up at the treetop. They were all cursing the weather with me.

I could hear the birds chattering in the treetops and occasionally see one flit by but that was the extent the warblers. However, I kept hearing a woodpecker in the distance. I finally caught up to it. A northern flicker landed right next to this Red-bellied while I was watching it.
