Downy Woodpecker – Dryobates pubescens

I am so excited! I finally got a woodpecker! I got this bird at Ashland Nature Center. I was there looking for warblers but found none. I was afraid that it was a black and white warbler but then it started pecking.

This is the smallest woodpecker in the United States. There are smaller ones elsewhere. I think this one is a female because it lacks a red stripe on its head.
